Can anyone help with ideas for a mothers day gift that I can make at home that will incorporate their children/grandchildren in it as well? Thanks, All ideas welcome
Ok, i have alot of ideas:
*Family photo house
*Clay finger print cards
*Recipe card holder
Directions:
1) Family photo house
What you need:
-Pop Tart box, or one of similar shape and size
-Construction paper
-Scissors
-Tacky glue
-Pennies, pebbles or modeling clay
-Tape
-Photographs of all family members
-Fine-tip Sharpie or other black marker
What you do:
1. The top of the box (with flaps intact) will be the top of the house. Decide what color you would like your house to be and cover the outside with construction paper. Leave three extra inches of construction paper at the top all the way around.
2.Cut slits in the construction paper at the top corners, so that the paper can fold like the flaps can. Glue the construction paper to the flaps.
3.Trim the pictures into rectangular windows, or you may decide to cut carefully around the person’s picture (sort of like a paper doll) and glue that to a rectangular piece of white paper to make a window.
4.Decorate the house, placing the windows and a door. You might want to include your family name, a message and the year.
5.Fold corners of the big flaps of the top of the box inward to make an upside down "v". Fold the corners inward, but leave them sitting like tabs, so that you can glue the roof to them. Fold the small flaps down inside the box.
6.Decide what color you would like your roof to be and cut the construction paper to cover it. Glue it on and then add any details you would like to your house, i.e., window boxes, shutters, flowers, ivy or anything else you like!
Craft 2) Finger print cards:
What you need:
*playdo
*sparkles
*arcrylic paint
*paint brushes
What to do:
1. Divide the playdo to each kid and have them all designe their finger prints in it some way, and then allow them to use deccos such as glitter to decorate and personalize.
Craft 3) Recipe card holder:
What you need:
-35 Popsicle sticks
-School glue or tacky glue
-Wax paper or plastic grocery bags
-White satin ribbon
-Rubber stamp (small simple design such as star or heart)
-Stamp pad
-Silk flower
-3×5" Index cards, lined
What to do:
1. Protect your surface by using wax paper or plastic grocery bags. You can use newspaper, but I find that the project tends to stick to it and the newspaper print transfers to the Popsicle sticks.
2.Glue 11 Popsicle sticks long sides together in a row.
3.Glue 6 Popsicle sticks long sides together in a row.
4.Glue 2 Popsicle sticks long sides together in a row
5.Stack and glue 8 Popsicle sticks on top of each other.
6.Create another stack of 8 Popsicle sticks.
7.Take one stack of 8 Popsicle sticks and glue to the (11 stick) longest row, along the longest side
8.Repeat with other stack of 8 Popsicle sticks.
9. Glue the row of 2 Popsicle sticks at one end of the recipe holder to create the bottom.
10. Glue the row of 6 Popsicle sticks on top of the stacks of 8 Popsicle sticks, and adhering to the bottom edge of the recipe holder
11. Turn recipe holder over. Glue 2 Popsicle sticks together to create a V shape and attach to the top of the recipe holder to create a hanger
12. Let dry completely
13. Rubber stamp design on ribbon and at the top of the recipe cards. Add a silk flower if desired.
14. Give this useful present to your mother, aunt, grandmother, or anyone who likes to cook!
scrap book!!
a scrapbook!!!, or put a lot of pictures in a cool picture fame, a collage (sp?), or even make a home-made suprise dinner and invite some family members over.
a card
dinner
Use a frosted glass candle holder. Get a glue stick and cover it with word or pictures. You can also use glue sticks. Then cover it with 3 layers of mod podge. Place a candle in. Ta da!!!
stop being a cheapskate and get her that porsche she’s had her eye on.
card, dinner and flowers
How about a scrapbook and leave extra pages at the end…even give her supplies to finish it with pix at her house? Kids can journal and EVERY mom loves to see their kiddos’ writings!
The candle holder is a great idea, too. At the preschool we made them (using small bowl shaped holders). We cut up, in small pieces, colored tissue paper. Glue them to the bowl and smooth over flat. When dry, modge podge over that if you want to. Dry again. Great tea lite stained glass holders!
Mom of 4
1. coupon books that promise to do chores without complaints.
2. For the VERY young–hand prints are wonderful keepsakes. Date them and put them on an apron, a bag, paper and laminate, plaster of paris, etc. Anything that the mom can keep down the years.
3. A handpainted flower pot, with an herb growing in it…perhaps chives as they flower beautifully
4. Simple handmade truffles.
INGREDIENTS
8 ounces good-quality semi- or bittersweet chocolate, coarsely chopped
4 ounces unsweetened chocolate
8 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
Your choice of flavoring (see below)
Your choice of coating (see below)
DIRECTIONS
Heat chocolates, butter and milk in a pan until chocolates and butter are partially melted. Remove from heat and stir until completely melted. Whisk in desired flavoring until creamy-smooth.
Transfer to a bowl and let stand until firm enough to hold its shape, about 2 hours.
Using a tablespoon (a spring-action 1 Tb. scoop is ideal), mold chocolate into balls, 1 level Tb. at a time, and place on a cookie sheet lined with greased parchment paper.
Place desired coating in a small bowl. Working one at a time, drop truffles into the bowl with greased fingertips. Shake bowl back and forth so truffles are completely coated. If necessary, roll truffles by hand to make round. Return to parchment. (Can be refrigerated in an airtight container up to 5 days or frozen up to 1 month.) Before serving, let stand at room temperature to soften slightly.
Flavoring options
Orange: 6 Tbs. orange-flavored liqueur, such as Grand Marnier, and 1/2 tsp. finely grated orange zest
Coffee: 6 Tbs. coffee-flavored liqueur, such as Kahluah and 1 tsp. instant coffee
Raspberry: 6 Tbs. raspberry liqueur, such as Chambord
Coating options:
1 cup of minced sweetened, flaked coconut
1 cup of minced roasted pistachios
1 cup of minced toasted walnuts
1 cup of sifted unsweetened cocoa
1 cup of sprinkles
Well it depends on how old you are…
Make a photo album with all the awesome old pictures you can find and make it into a sort of scrap book.
Put soething like Grandmas Family or whatever.
She will love that
If your talking about a kids project Have them make thier own frames out of glue and popsical sticks. I made one when I was in 3rd grade. I put my baby picture in it and gave it to my mom for mothers day. she loved it too
a coupon book my mom loved them.
Cleaning the house, cooking, washing and ironing…instead of your mother. Best present ever!
A chocolate cake with fudge frosting…and, call me when it’s ready.
Just cleaning the house, cooking for the day, and any other thing that Mom usually does around the house on that day would suffice. May be Mom likes taking care of the flowers on her yard. Then cultivate and renew the flowerbed for this year. But above all, speaking for Moms in general everywhere, a simple "I Love You" and "I appreciate all that you do" will do the trick. May God Bless U.
How about making stepping stones for her garden. You can put the childrens handprints in the stones with their names. Buy a bag of concrete mix at a department store and use a large round pan for a mold. You can place pieces of tiles, glass, or any other crafty pieces to the top of the concrete for decoration. This will be a work of art representing the children/grandchildren that will bless the garden forever.
bouquet, scrapbook, candles…..but I would prefer a scrapbook though.
Make her dinner and her favorite desert!
You could do a single journaling page, with photographs……sort of like a heritage tree……use a piece of parchment, pictures hut into shapes with birthdates and relationship written next to them, and then use some really nice scrapbooking stickers to decorate it. Frame it, and voila!
Anything with kids handprints is cute. Potting plants with the kids prints and some glitter with a little flower inside is sweet. Decorated photo frames made by kids with their pic in it.. geez.. anything will make mom or grandma happy as long as its full of love. goodluck!
For fathers day last year I made him a card, and i put pictures of us fishing a couple years ago, and I wrote a poem. I used scrap booking materials though, such as ribbon, and patterned paper.
he loved it, and it was from the heart.
One year, I could not even afford a bobby pin for someone for Mothers Day. So, I took some construction paper(which I had on hand) and wrote out a years worth of IOU"S for Desserts for the year. This could be anything from their favorite dessert, something for a church function or cupcakes for the Grand kids school parties. I felt bad only giving that but as the year went on everyone loved it and I was so proud I could help. Of course this had to be something they knew i could cook and I had a 3 day advance notice on it. Today, although I can afford small gifts, I still make sure everyone gets at least a 6 month one. It was fun!!
card? take up pottery! They still have those paint and plaster places for kids, It would be cute doing some thing like that when you are older. And it’s cheap
A scrapbook.
Give Mom a holiday or a handmade coupon book. Each person could make a separate coupon book or their could be a group one. I have even heard of husbands giving their wives a coupon book with things besides household chores, like marital favors.
My Mom’s favorite has ALWAYS been (even now that I’m an adult) a personally or handmade card!
my mom write alot of letters so i took all of the kids and grandkids and made her different address label designs
Get modeling clay and have the children make hand prints in it….help them paint them and attach a string to the top and hang in the house ……Then make a treasure map or scavenger hunt to hint to where you hung them.(each one different places). Trust me the children will love to watch and help search for the treasure!! It makes a great memory of mothers day for all involved!! Mom, Grandma, and children will love it!
A home-made coupon book is really thoughtful, cute, and creative. All you need is some construction paper, a pipecleaner, and decorative stuff like glitter or colored pencils and stencils (your choice).
Just cut pieces of paper into standard index card sizes and be creative coming up with different coupons she can use (decorate however you’d like)
Here’s some coupon ideas, for example:
Coupon 1
Good for unlimited hugs & kisses EXPIRES: NEVER
Coupon 2
One chore free day…We’ll cook, clean, and do your errands! EXPIRES: Next Mother’s Day!
When you are all done making as many coupons as you want and decorating them, then make holes on the left edge of paper( like you’re binding a spiral notebook) and weave the pipecleaner in and out until you’ve connected all the coupons and now you have a coupon book.
